  Where We Are

Romtrade Consult SRL is based in Odorheiu-Secuiesc, the second largest town in the Harghita region of Transylvania, Romania,  the centre of the country.  The population is approximately 43,000 (around 100,000 including local villages) and the spoken language is Hungarian, although the official language is RomanianThe majority of the local people speak both languages.  Odorheiu is nestled amongst the Carpathian mountains where brown bears, lynx, stags and a myriad of other animals roam.  The flora is breathtaking with its vivid colours and variety.  It is natural spa country with many health resorts and the mineral water is well known for its health-giving properties.

Winter skiing is very popular here as well as other tourism activities. There are restaurants, hotels, cafes, discos, banks and a range of other facilities for the visitor to enjoy and the cost of living is well below other European countries.  The people are friendly and welcoming and know how to enjoy themselves.  The crime rate is extremely low.  This is a student town with many young people.  The architecture is both varied and interesting.

The town centre has two squares, Piata Libertatii and Piata Márton Arón. Situated to the west is the former Franciscan monastery (1712–79), reoccupied by Clarissite nuns since the revolution of 1989. On the island between the two squares is the Reformed church (1781) and on the hill beyond, the Catholic church of Sf Miklós (1787–93), set between the Jesuits building of 1651 and the high school.

Unemployment is low in this area and industry is high, especially in textiles and food manufacturing.  "Coats" the multinational  UK thread manufacturer has built a second factory here in Odorheiu.  On the whole this region benefits from a higher standard of living than elsewhere in Romania with EU Grant Aid being channelled into tourism, etc.

The Bucharest to Budapest motorway is already underway and will be situated about 50 kilometres from Odorheiu.  This will open and enable more trade to this area.  The motorway section through Transylvania extends for 415 km from Brasov to the Hungarian border near the village of Bors.  It is part of the Constanta-Bucharest-Budapest motorway corridor, which is one of the three planned links of the Trans-European motorway network. The motorway is an important element in securing Romania’s relationship between Asia, Europe and the Black Sea Region.  The project, estimated at €3.0 billion, is expected to create direct employment to approximately 9,000 people, whilst indirect employment is expected to greatly exceed this figure. There will also be significant benefits to road users. More facilities have relocated to Odorheiu such as banks, hotels, three hypermarkets and restaurants to take up the flux.  Lake St. Ana
